WHO ARE WE?

We are Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as the International Charitable Initiative for Girl Child and Women Development Foundation (ICI-GWODEF), also known as Girl Child and Woman Foundation. We are registered with Corporate Affairs Commission since October, 2011.We are registered and/or in partnership with National and International Agencies including but not limited to Ministry of Women Affairs, Alausa, Ikeja, Nigerian Prison Service now known as Nigeria Correctional Centres, Lagos State Aids Control Agency (LSACA), United Nations Information Centre, UNIC, Lagos. We are in Consultative Status with ECOSOC United Nations since 2020. We are mostly Female Lawyers. Our Foundation is established to give Legal Support to the less privileged Girl Child and Women who cannot afford it. Our NGO is also an advocacy driven non profit making body that seeks to give a voice to Orphans, widows, children and women generally. It provides free legal services to children and women who can not afford it. It commences, prosecute, defend, answer, or opposed all actions and other legal proceedings and demands touching children and women who seeks for such through our Foundation. It associates with other Organisations, Multinationals, National and International bodies to assist the Women. We visits and/or takes care of the less privileged homes including but not limited to Old People’s Homes, Prisons, Orphanages and vulnerable Children Centers. Our Vision is to use Legal Instruments to fight social discrimination’s, injustices and stigmatization against the Girl Child and Woman and they being able to achieve set goals without social hindrances.

As our mission, we want to discourage harmful traditional practices and coordinate a civil society for the vulnerable Girl Child and Woman, that is inclusive of Fundamental Freedoms, anti violence against Women, equal opportunities, community leadership, poverty alleviation, economic empowerment, community health services and a genuine partnership with other sectors on a “best practice ” basis as a way for Sustainable Woman and by extension Human Development. United Nations declared 11th October of every year as an International Day of the Girl Child. Since our major work is on the Girl Child we have never fail to mark this day except during Pandemic and the lock down associated with same. Every year we gather girls for this purpose. Last year 2023, we marked our annual international day of the Girl Child with Hope Fountain school for the Deaf. During Covid we use the period to visit less privileged homes, for example we have been to Female Correctional Centre, Kirikiri, we have been to Girls Correctional Centre, Idi-Araba, Surulere, we have been to several Orphanages etc. We have formidable team all the while and we appreciate them.

It has not been easy all these years but God made it easy for us. We are happy in what we do and we hold ourselves accountable. Kindly work with us in our effort to put smiles in the faces of women and the Girls. We don’t hesitate to act on reports concerning Child rapes, child trafficking, child molestation and the likes. As we marked our last year International Day of the Girl Child with Hope Fountain School for the Deaf at Ojokolo Agbado Ijaiye area of Lagos State on Wednesday the 11th day of October, 2023, this year we will like to gather Girls for impartful knowledge sharing from Experts of different fields, or use the occasion to repeat our visit to Female Correctional Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos State. We are fully Charitable.

We have just incorporated our Canada Branch of our international Charitable Initiative for Girl Child and Women Development Foundation which headquarters is in Nigeria and which Organisation is in Consultative Status with ECOSOC United Nations since 2020. We have same vision and mission for both Canada and Nigeria. Girl Child and Women Development Foundation, Canada will amongst others carry out the following activities:

• Free legal services to indigent Girls and Women
• Shelter
• Caregiving
• Food Banks
• Organise workshops, Seminars, Expositions and symposiums, especially on the day of our annual International Day of the Girl Child as declared by United Nations through it’s resolution.
• We fight against child and human trafficking, drugs abuse, prostitution and the likes.
• We embark on visits to Correctional Centres, Shelters and less privileged homes
• We give Scholarships to indigent Girls
• Collaborations with Government, National and International Agencies
• Provisions of clothing and Sanitary wears through our food Banks
• Counselling and consulting
• Provisions of vocational and remedial training programmes

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Helen is a graduate of Lagos State University where She obtained her LLB in the year 2000. She proceeded to Nigeria Law School, Bwari Abuja where She obtained her BL. Helen was called to Nigerian Bar in the year 2002. She proceeded to University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba where she obtained Her Masters Degree in Law (LLM) in the year 2012.

She is a Notary Public for the Federal Republic of Nigeria as appointed by Supreme Court. She is a Member of Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK). Helen is the Founder of the International Charitable Initiative for Girl Child and Women Development Foundation (ICI-GWODEF) also known as Girl Child and Woman Foundation a Non Governmental Organisation in Consultative Status with ECOSOC United Nations since 2020. Helen is not just a Land and Company Lawyer but also have strong flare for litigation. She is a native of Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.
